What you can see

  • The theme name the storefront declares
  • Whether it is an official Theme Store theme or a custom one
  • A link to search the theme in the Shopify Theme Store
  • The apps and payment methods around it

You know which theme to look up before you judge a store's design.

How it works

From storefront to theme.

  1. Open the storefront

Run the analysis on the store you are looking at.

  2. Evidio reads the theme markers

The theme's own declaration in the page is read first, then other markers when it is absent.

  3. Check the theme

An official theme links to the Theme Store; a custom one says so.

When it helps

Find out whether a design is off the shelf.

The situation

A competitor's storefront looks sharp and you wonder whether it is a paid theme you could use, or months of custom work.

With Evidio

The tech stack shows the theme and whether it comes from the Theme Store. You look it up directly instead of reading page source.

Questions it helps answer

  • Which theme is this store using?
  • Is it an official theme or a custom one?
  • Could I use the same theme?
Read the signal correctly

The declared name can be a merchant's rename.

Evidio reports the theme name the store declares, which is the name the merchant gave it in the admin, so a renamed copy shows the new name. When the store declares nothing, Evidio falls back to other markers, and a theme identified that way can be labelled custom. Headless storefronts expose no theme.

Observed

  • The theme object the storefront declares
  • The Theme Store ID, when present

Estimated or inferred

  • A theme name read from class names or file names, when nothing is declared

Frequently asked questions

How does Evidio identify a theme?

It reads the theme information the storefront publishes in its own code. When that is absent, it looks for other markers such as class names and asset file names.

What does official or custom mean?

Official means the storefront declares a Shopify Theme Store ID, so the theme can be looked up in the store. Custom means no Theme Store ID was found.

Why does the theme name look unfamiliar?

Merchants can rename their theme in the admin, and the storefront publishes that name. Search the Theme Store link, or compare the design, to find the original.
